The green-eyed politics!

Some public sector jobs truly deserve good pay and the best possible pension schemes with our blessings and gratitude on top of it.

Jobs like nursing, teaching, fire fighting, all sectors of the armed forces and the police are vital for the welfare and security of our society. It is therefore paramount; to attract and recruit the best possible candidates for these jobs, and to provide them with the highest training and maximum possible support that allows them to deliver their duties to the best of their abilities – and yes, at the end of it they should also get a good and reflective pension regardless of what age they retire at.

Take for instance the police, of course those who join the force do so with their eyes wide open, but so do bankers, lawyers doctors and footballers – going into an honourable job knowingly should not mean we (the public) have the right to be thankless or take what they do for granted, or worst treat them with the dismissive attitude of “they knew what the job is about when they signed to it!”

Our police who are well trained and respected the world over – are the only force in the world, I know off, who knowingly enter into challenging and dangerous situations armed only with courage, patience and a genuine desire to resolve any conflict peacefully. That alone deserves our undying appreciation. That alone qualifies them for the best pay, the best pension package and a compassionate working environment. They are also the only group who can very rarely hand over (regardless of whether their shift ended or not) without the full resolution of the situation at hand.

We, as a nation, were never the kind of people who look at others with envy or judge people by how much they earn, and unless what people did was illegal or wicked we never batted an eye.

Suddenly, and after the longest socialist reign in the UK, all we seem to be interested in is what other people earn and finding ways to relief them off some of it. That kind of feeling is neither healthy nor natural, plus it only builds resentment and kills aspiration – two very ugly and extremely destructive qualities we can most definitely do without!
