For the love of London, build Heathrow’s third runway. #LHR

Very excited by this morning’s reports form Westminster, about the possiblity of reshuffling Justine Greening from Transport to make room for someone more sympathetic to the expansion of London Heathrow (LHR). Not because Ms. Greening is not doing a good job or I don’t like her. I actually think she is one of a handful of Tory MPs that will go very far and do it very, very quietly. My excitement is for my city, my chosen home, for London. A city of limitless potentials and huge opportunities, a town where everything is conceivable and almost nothing is impossible. I am thrilled for the financial and economic prospects that will come from building the much needed third runway in LHR.

London Heathrow needs to become the airport that tops all airports because it is the capital’s main airport. I know many say there is Stansted, Gatwick or even City plus multiple railway connections. And there are even those who think Birmingham…… or Boris Island….! All of that is good on paper and makes for great debates. But let’s face it, if we are being honest, none of them is Heathrow. Location, location, location, is the key to why LHR is London’s best asset and it should therefore be treated accordingly.

Politicians need to be bold and unafraid. They need to know that electorates will not always like or agree with them and what they do or say – and vice versa. They, we all, just need to be frank and brave.

Expanding Heathrow and capitalizing on London, is good for local economies, the UK and global business. As for its effects on the environment, with eco-technology daily evolving, by the time a third runway is up and running many of the ecological concerns could be tackled and hopefully resolved. But either way we need to maintain some prospective. Because, if we learned anything from the current economic downturn, it is that only diverse economies can sustain themselves in severe economic hardships.

Our beautiful dynamic city deserves a world class airport that rivals other world class airports. And remember, London is not any capital; it is the heart of the world and it is the bridge between the West and the East.
