Melanie Philips is wrong!

Melanie Philips

Melanie Philips’ comment in the Spectator “So this is what the Conservatives party has really come to: defending responsibility and ‘doing the right thing’ as not marrying the girl whom a young man get pregnant but merely moving in with her in order that she can continue to live on benefit” is quite bizarre.

Surely Ms Philips does not think that the Tories should start telling people how to lead their lives? It is this and every couples’ choice to get married if they choice so, regardless of our own personal beliefs in this matters. Although studies have shown that children raised by married parents have a better start in life because they enjoy greater stability and balance from an early age, but that does not change the fact that marriage is a personal choice and it should neither be dictate nor penalised by the state.

Besides how dare she compare Cameron to Obama the two are light years apart, Obama wants to control every aspect of the American life and give government control over every tiny detail while Cameron is trusting people with running their own lives by giving them back full control over it. But maybe she likes the sound of “the hopey-changey thing” and thought it will makes for a cute sound bite in her blog, other than that she is barking.
