Easter a la Sudan!

When we were young Easter (religion wise) was observed by the Christian community but celebrated by everyone – it was great fun!
On Easter Sunday all the children dressed in their fineries will take part in an early morning Easter egg hunt. These eggs were not made of chocolate, they were proper hard boiled eggs prepared and cooled on Friday and hand painted early on Saturday then hidden carefully about the garden ready for the hunt on Sunday morning.
Most of us kids were instructed to just gather the eggs and to eat any of them. But every year without fail some greedy so and so will eat one and someone will run and tell, then a mother will start wailing and crying – and the focus will all be on them (not the count, which is the purpose of the hunt) – until someone discovered edible dye.
After the church service most families’ in groups will go on picnics – with loads of finger food including chocolates. The picnics were mostly somewhere around the Nile at a farm or at the Khartoum Dam in the Forest by the Blue Nile or sailing on the Nile itself (never really thought about it but the Nile played a huge part in our lives in many way).
Have a Blessed and Happy Easter Everybody!
