Quitting is the easy way out!

Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn are the only social media applications I use, therefore I can easily speak from personal experience. They each have and serve a different purpose. Facebook has put me and kept me in touch with family & friends all over the world, it has also introduced me to some brilliant people that I might never have meet has it not been for fb, and for that I very much value Facebook. I use LinkedIn solely for business, but Tweeter is my all rounder social media, it is sharp versatile and at 140 characters, I aim to use only 120, it is an art tweeting a coherent valuable message to your followers – and post it at once on all three networks.

So when this morning I read that Paul Carr has quit all social media for good, to be honest I did not know what to think, except why the drama!? And do people really become that obsessed twittering and facebooking that they need to go cold turkey rather than exercise self control and just cut back?

Does that mean, now, we are going to have a group of social media casualties, with square eyes and twitchy fingers clutching at their Smartphones?

If we are being honest, people with additive tendencies will always go a little OTT with whatever they do, twittering and facebooking included. But lets’ get real here, it is not at all a reason to quit social media all together, is it!?

A social media presence can be managed easily. You don’t have to constantly update a stutus or send loads of tweets either. The likes of Facebook and Twitter can be important methods of communication if you’re e.g. a blogger, photographer or salesperson.
