Sometimes, you can’t help but wonder and ask yourself how come?

These past few days I found it a bit OTT that even after the second suspect was shot and arrested, British media was still leading with the Boston bombing. Especially as other news around the world were as prominent and as grave. For instance, last week an earthquake in China claimed over 200 lives and left over 1200 injured and missing. In Nigerian, intense fighting broke between the military and Islamist militants and killed at least 185 people. But these events hardly made big in-depth news. Yesterday, every news channel was busy reporting the reactions of runners who ran in both in the London and Boston Marathons! It seems background stories and reactions to the two events where more important than hundreds dying elsewhere in the world!

Don’t get me wrong. Home grown terrorism is a serious business. Knowing how, why and when, is all part of finding a possible explanation and therefore solutions to resolve it. But while the Boston bomb took 3 lives (five if you count the officer and one of the suspects) the Chinese earthquake and the Nigerian inner fighting took and displaced hundreds of lives. Yet both have little to no mention in British news. Regardless of logistics, the least these innocent lives deserve is a mention at the top of the news bulletins on Sky and the BBC.

Don’t you think?

All I am saying, let’s have some prospective. And give news stories their weight.
