Beyond the Battlefield: Who Enables Sudan’s War?

Another massacre. Another report of civilians killed by drones . And once again, the question extends beyond the battlefield.

At least 30 displaced civilians were reportedly killed in Abu Shandi, Blue Nile State, on 9 October, in an attack attributed to the RSF.

If reports that the drones were launched from Ethiopian territory are confirmed, the implications are serious.

Sudan’s war cannot be understood, let alone ended, by looking only at the Sudanese actors fighting it. Cross-border military operations and the external support sustaining the conflict demand scrutiny, evidence and accountability.

Civilian protection requires more than condemning atrocities. It requires confronting the conditions that make them possible.
