A fantastic PMQs

PMQs to me is like the X Factor to my girls, some days – as it was the case yesterdays – I can’t watch it live so I try to catch it on BBC Parliament. And, boy I am so glad I did.

Mr. Brown was skiving so the Harman stood in for him, the chamber was a little more boisterous than usual – just like school the subs always get it – the Speaker more than once had to ask members to simmer down, but no one paid him much attention.

Before Hague even got to his feet I knew we were in for a treat. Curled up next to Buddy – my trusted 9 years old Jack Russell – we were ready with anticipation.

Politicians – especially those in office – are renowned for avoiding answers and sidestepping issues, but Harman yesterday came across as uninformed unprepared and seemed to have only one response for all the questions –‘Tories are talking down Britain, but Labour is the party that is …………‘same old story of Labour is doing the work’ blah…blah,….. blah!

When she called William Hague “foreign secretary” the second time I sat up and Buddy’s ears perked up – once we can pass it off as a slip of the tongue but twice, she clearly was setting him up for a fall – and it almost worked…. except it beautifully backed fired.

As expected the Ashcroft issue took centre stage – but also did Mr. Harman (Newly selected Labour PPC Jack Dromey). “She may not want to recognise marriage in the tax system but she sure does in the political system” was a classic Hague comeback and it floored the Harman and her side. But Mrs. Dromey was relentless so she tried again to bring Ashcroft, this time she got two warnings, one from the Speaker reminding her to stay on house questions and from Hague about the glass house she is living in – and reminded her that Lord Paul, a Non Dom privy counselor who bought 6,000 copies of Mr. Brown’s book!!!! And another Non – Dom hedge-fund manger who gave the party half a million pounds..!

If I was to score yesterday’s PMQ – 2 Con, ZERO Lab, Vince Cable said something very funny – but I can’t even remember it now – that’s how lively it was yesterday – God Bless Sky!
