The rule of threes

Posted 9 Mar 2010 by Walaa Idris

The rule of three is actually a principle in English writing that suggests that things that come in threes are funnier and more effective. Some will go as far as believing that good and bad luck also comes in threes.

This week three things, happenings or events made me stop and take a second look!

ONE; is the Jon Venables case – one of the killers of James Bulger – who was given a new identity after his release on license from prison. For the life of me I can not understand why all the fuss. The man (Venables) has re-offended and broke the terms of his license and needs to go back in – that’s what being out in license is all about – isn’t it!

The fact that Mrs. Fergus (Bulger’s mother) is disappointed – in all honesty – is neither here nor there. Justice was done as far as the horrific murder of her son 17 years ago! ‘Or’ was it not done? If she did not agree with the verdict then, then she should have contested the sentence at the time, but to make an issue now of a totally unrelated – to her son’s case – and different case is irresponsible.

TWO; the UK’s jobless recovery!!!! An oxymoron no doubt in my mind, how can the UK be recovering if we are still losing jobs and not getting or creating new ones. How is it a recovery when no body is confidant to do business and how can it be a recovery when those who have money to spend are still sitting on their hands. How can we call it a recovery when our currency is on a downwards spiral?

THREE; dog insurance – is that how we are going to save the economy – with Dog insurance! Who comes up with this madness any ways….!!!!?

Every responsible dog owner has some kind of insurance for their best friend and no self respecting dog lover will leave their pooch unchipped. So why penalize those who are law obeying responsible dog owners? Go after those who bread dogs for fighting and protection, go after those who let their pets attack other dog owners and their pets. But don’t hid behind a so called ‘we care about you nonsense’ when all it is is another tax gimmick to plough more money from half the British population.
