Amazing what happens when you are not looking!

Where to from here for the Liberal Democrats, they wanted to get noticed and now they are centre stage – so what’s next?

The big question still remains, who are the Lib Dems? Are they socialists who want to scarp Trident and disarm the country from nuclear power? Tax the rich in their incomes and again in their homes and possibly everything there after – give every prisoner a get out of jail free card or are they liberals who believe those who entered illegally are entitled to citizenship despite the consequences of that notion? Are the LibDems a pro Europe party that will drag the country kicking and screaming into full integration – some liberals believe that we should while others say that used to be their policy – so which is it?

They want fairness to all – so does the others parties. They believe the UK politics has suffered great mistrust and badly needs reform – all the others belief that one too!

A lot is unclear and I suspect with their sudden serge in the polls a lot needs to be explained or maybe even changed. For example last weekend Mrs Clegg said she is an independent professional mum of three who did not have time to do ‘the wifey thing’ and follow hubby on the campaign trail. After the debate in an interview to a Spanish reporter she said “If Nick were Prime Minister and I had to give up my job to support the country, I would have no problem in doing so.”

What puzzles me, is for years the liberals were eager for this opportunity and for month now they knew they will take part in these debates – but still it sounds like politics by default – and feels like they were caught off-guard unprepared and unready for any of it!!

Well yeah we didnt expect to be doing this well. and nor did you guys.

Also should we change our policies to be popular? is that not popularist or should we stand up for what we believe in and expain and defend our policies?

BTW like to put you right on some of the half truths told about Lib Dems policy

1.we would not scrap trident we just would not renew it. because we cant afford it. does this mean that countries with out nuclear weapons are defense less. If Iran nuked us then would the US not nuke them? anyway why would anyone other than a terrorist group try to nuke us. so if that happened do we just nuke Afganistan or Iran incase it was them?

2.we would not drag the UK that far into the EU we refuse to rule out joining the Euro but also have no plans to do so. expect we would have a referendum.

3.illegal immigrants who work for gangs and who have been here for 10 years and who meet alot of critia like specjing English would have a right to earn citizenship if they are working for criminal gangs. The tories wont send them back, we cant find them etc otherwise these people will continue to work for gangs and slave labour and be here for 10 more years not paying taxes.

Lib Dems are Liberal and socialists with a small s. You know the Tories are more socialists then say the us democrat party, they will still have benefits still support the NHS that is socialism.

Mrs Clegg is not doing the Wife thing (well only at the weekend)at the moment because she is holding down her job, if Nick Wins then fair enough she would help Nick Full time, dont see a problem with that

I think that it is the LibDem position on the EU and its ability to do the sums necessary to make a workable budget that really need addressing.
I would like some clarity on the LibDem’s history of their flipflopping on the Lisbon Treaty. I would like to know their position on the EU extradition agreements.

@Dazmando I did not mean you should change your policies to be popular – just which one is it now? You had so many different ones which is which.

1) “we would not scarp Trident we just would not renew it” what’s the difference – not maintaining something is the equivalent of scraping it.

2) ‘we refuse to rule out joining the Euro but also have no plans to do so’ – which is – with all due respect that is called flip flopping!

3) Illegal immigrants who are also criminal should be sent back to where they came from no if or buts about it!

@Eveleigh – I am having a little patchy on their history too – let me know what you find please.
