Sorry mate it still doesn’t make sense!

A Labour friend of mine tweeted from the “Labour Leadership BAME Husting” that both Ed Miliband & Diane Abbott see the case for All BAME shortlist!
As a black woman who continuous to work hard and strive to be the best at everything I do I find it very demoralising and condescending to be characterized by race and/or gender alone. I was uncomfortable with the A’ List and prayed the Conservative party does not go through with the all women short list in the last election. Because I am of the view that discrimination by any other name is still discrimination. These superficial measures might instantly boost numbers and increase memberships but long term they only weaken and hold back cohesion and proper acceptance.
So when my friend told me that he posted a blog to address the points I raised – I was excited at the prospect of a clarification. But there were none, not because he is unable to explain – but because the logic itself is unexplainable. How can anyone rationalize the irrational!
All political parties today need more diversity in their ranks, but instead of panicking and introducing rash temporary measures, the solution is conversations, genuine interest and debate. That might be time consuming but the relationship will be built on equality, understanding, trust and conviction. And as a result it will be stronger and last longer.
