NO for AV is Not No to the Coalition!

Why everybody is so surprised that Cameron and most Conservatives will campaign against AV, and why does saying NO to AV is automatically construed as saying No to the Coalition, is beyond me! They are two very different things.

However, I was startled this morning by Paddy Ashdown on Sky suggesting that “saying No to AV is saying No to the Coalition”. I was surprised, because I expected the person who might become the European Special envoy for the Balkans to know better than to mix the two issues.

Going into coalition was never intended as an amalgamation of the two parties, and both parties went in knowing it is merely a working agreement. The main purpose of this partnership and its priority is what’s best for the country. By doing that there will ultimately be some benefits, having a referendum just happened to be one of those benefits nothing more!
