Most Conservative Associations are run by professionals

The idea of having ‘professional’ chairmen running Conservative Associations is not novel; many associations up and down the country are chaired and managed voluntarily, by successful councillors, former MPs and candidates. These are all professionals, in so that they are not novices to canvassing, campaigning managing teams and events or fundraising.

Talking with some who were at that meeting on July 14, most were very excited that many of the issues candidates were meet with during their candidacy were aired and discussed openly. The general feeling and understanding was that CCHQ, Cameron and Osborne wanted to first thank the candidates and to know, going forward, how to best help future PPCs – by hearing it directly from them in a relaxed environment.

We all know it is silly season and the low drip of news must be frustrating for journalist – but it is disingenuous for the Mail to report what is one person’s dismay with the meeting as a possible turf war between Associations and Central Office.

The Mail is “mixing it” as is their wont!

I agree with you wholeheartedly about professionals (in the truest sense of the word) running Conservative Associations. I can certainly say that for my own! Our Chairman and his Officer Team are superb and work their socks off. Having said that, I am aware that as a London Association full of young people we are something of the exception. The further one goes from London, the higher the average age of the activists seems to become.
