What does today’s milk fiasco say!?
Posted 8 Aug 2010 by Walaa Idris
This morning we woke up to news that the Coalition Government is scrapping the current Nursery Milk Scheme for the under fives. Health Minster Ann Milton said the scheme was too expensive and there was no evidence it benefited children – and therefore it will be scrapped. But before midday, aids of the prime minster said “he did not like the idea of cancelling free milk” – and therefore it will not be happening!
This is not the first retraction or u-turn from the government. Understandably, before things settle down, and at the start of any new business or enterprise there will be a few bumps and lumps on the road, and new governments are not that different.
However, what happened today was a little more than a small hick up, to announce and retract immediately this way shows a breakdown in communication – it also leaves those caught up in the situation with an uneasy perplexed feeling.
I am confidant there is a good explanation for what happened this morning but whatever it is this government is off to a good start, carelessness and lack of intercommunication such as these need to be curbed!
