Smoking rooms will be better for business!

The smoking debate is back again; its health problems and the smoking ban seem to be hoting once more plus some think smoking in cars should be banned!!

We all know smoking is a health hazard, not just to the smoker but also those around them. Nevertheless, banning it [from private cars and restricting it at home, as some are suggesting] is further infringement on smokers’ freedom, having said that, smoke free pubs are a real joy.

Last century, I used to work for M&S! They had a smoking room in the cafeteria, and in true Marks & Spencer style they did not cut corners. The room was built like a humidor with a glass front and a heavy duty suction ventilator – both sides were able to see each other through the glass, but once the door was shut the room was tied sealed, neither smell nor smoke came out.

With many businesses losing foot traffic, due to the ban, how about adding a clause allowing for something similar and reversing the ban after the establishment comply. This will allow customers to stay indoors, keep out of the elements and cut in the city’s cleaning bill too. But there is a downside, when they walk out from the humidor; you can smell them ten miles away!
