A big fuss over nothingness!

I am delighted that the Papal four days UK visit was an enormous success and almost trouble free, despite what some anticipated. It was a great and positive reflection on us as a tolerant warm and welcoming society, qualities, daily make proud to be British!

But of course not everyone shares my feelings about the visit, and I understand it, in a diverse secular society like ours, religion can be a touchy subject. Some even feel the Prime Minster was wrong in hinting that his government does religion – these people feel that state and religion should be separate and never mix.

OK!!!!

But what about those people who have strong religious beliefs yet hold a political office, should they not say so, does declaring their belief also constitute mixing the two!

First of all, Cameron did not speak out of turn, his remark was both time and occasion appropriate and secondly religion happened to be an important part of many people’s lives’ in the UK today, and just as those who don’t want their leader to ‘Do God’ there are those who do.

Part of our broadmindedness is allowing everybody the freedom to express themselves and worship without fear of intimidation and that everyone also apply to those in leadership and in government.
