What is the most dangerous thing any politician can do today?

The simple answer is to give an interview to a journalist!

Because no matter what the politician says, on or off the record, the journalist is worth nothing if he or she does not have a story to tell, and not any story but a mouth watering juicy story – the kind that produces headlines for more than 48 hours.

And who will balm them!

With the rise of the blogospheres and our instant 24/7 on demand news cycles – journos today have to work doubly hard to stay afloat let alone stand out.

That’s what happened to Chris Huhne, and that’s what will happen to any politician who gives an interview to a journalist – is it fair maybe not – but it is a fact!

So, does that mean politicians shouldn’t give interviews?

Of course not, but they should give them knowing they will not be quoted a 100% and most of what they say will never make it to print – however, in return they should demand and agree on what front-page, yes front-page, headline they want –because and despite of everything, it is still a two way street where both parties need one another.

And remember, most readers will be satisfied with the headlines plus most of them know before hand that not every word printed inside the newspapers is gospel!
