One, Two and Three – Oh what fun!

The court declaring Phil Woolas’ election void has sent shock waves though the village of Westminster this morning, and although it wasn’t totally surprising many were very surprised!

This verdict means Phil Woolas, has to now step down as an MP plus he is also banned form standing for any public office for three years.

Furthermore, it gives the Coalition Government its first by- election. Elywn Watkins, the Liberal Democrats candidate who bore the brunt of Mr. Woolas’ toxic and dirty campaigning trickery must feel like the winner of tonight’s Euromillions jackpot – especially as he barely lost that election by a little over 100 votes.

However, this verdict also gives a few others a little headache too!

The first is John Bercow, as the speaker of the house he needs to decide whether or not to allow Woolas to keep his seat until the judicial review – but lucky for Mr. Bercow, he has until Monday to decide.

The second is Ed Miliband, what will he say in the matter, but most importantly, when will he say it. He did act as if nothing happened when Ken Livingston backed the expelled Labour candidate in last month’s Tower Hamlets Mayor election. This is a little more than a domestic issue or an internal dispute, plus the whole country will be watching.

The third and the one I most interested in is the Conservative party’s position once a by election is called. Kashif Ali, the Conservative candidate came third by a difference of 2413 votes. By Tory count that is a by election dream come true but at the same time their coalition partners are a mere 103 votes away form a win – will the Tories take a leave of Nick Boles’ book “ Which Way’s Up” or go for the jugular?

And some people still think politics is boring!!!

Ed Miliband is being very cautious and canny, but we would like to hear what he thinks, and you cannot just hang back in this sort of situation.

Walaa, how can anyone think politics is boring? I am rivetted and fascinated on a daily basis. After the leadership debates, I do think there is more interest, and it would be so good for this country if people were better informed.

angelneptunestar – I know “Politics boring” never. But I have a feeling Red Ed is not a go getter and will always be a reluctant leader.
