Winners and Losers ~ December 9, 2010

The latest Labour tactic seems to be “If we can’t scare them then let’s shame them”. This afternoon I managed to catch live a good portion of the Tuition Fees Debate on BBC Parliament. And the one thing that jumped at me during the speeches is Labour’s shameless political opportunism and their continued attempts to wage a class war, replying to every government point by resorting to class, inherited affluence and privileged back ground. It was shameful and irresponsible – yet a calculated attempt on their part to stifle debate, and for being a bully they are today’s losers!

But we have two winners; both are from this year’s intake, first Sam Gyimah who eloquently rocked the house with a very sensible, simple and straight to the point argument – that students will be better off paying after graduating than putting undo pressure on their families during university years. The other is Nick Boles, who gave statistical prove from the US, Canada, and Australia that paid higher education is not a deterrent to people from modest backgrounds nor is it a cub on aspiration.

If opposing is political opportunism then long may it continue, Your man Cameron and his club did exactly the same and you know it Wal

Interesting that you consider that “class war” is being waged by Labour, whilst the Conservatives and Lib Dems have raised the tuition fees to go into a university by 2/300 per cent.
I wouldn’t have gone to university these days. I did humanities though; a very unworthy path. Allows me to talk about politics and know what I am talking about.
Can’t be having that, obviously.
