Very Good or Very Pushy

Is the Labour MP for Streatham, Chuka Umunna, trying too hard or just comes across as if he is – if he is, trying hard, it seems to be working – for now. He was only elected to the commons last May and a few weeks after becoming an MP – he became PPS (Parliamentary Private Secretary) to the newly elected Labour Party leader, Ed Miliband. Seeing as Labour is not short of seasoned MPs of all ages, it makes you wonder. Is Mr Umunna that good or is he incredibly pushy!?
A couple of years back Umunna was dubbed the British Barack Obama, but as quickly as it came about that likening disappeared. Which is a blessing, because soon after, Obama lost that “hopey changey thing” and his light started to dim. A reminder for all to wait before tagging people with what can easily backfire and especially in politics where things can take a funny turn very fast.
Whenever someone is either compared to or style them self on someone who’s fairly new they are taking a risk. As most of those early indications are almost always slightly hyped, somewhat superficial and built on a little depth and even less achievements – which where they mostly go wrong, when the image falls short in action. It might come as a surprise to some but even politics on paper is much simpler than it is in practise.
I like that Mr Umunna is very ambitious, and driven it’s an admirable trait just hope he doesn’t do an “Obama” and peak too early on rhetoric and showmanship – because what really counts in the end is what he delivers!
