The Art of politics!

Sounds simple and even straight forward, but it’s not.

Politics and diplomacy go hand in hand that’s why most of our politicians today are well read in philosophy and skilled in nudging. However, there are still those who can do with adopting a little more of each.

Recently there have been many instances of raw genuine feelings being aired and shared which in itself is good and welcomed if the intention was to make those feelings public knowledge. Nevertheless, the same can not be said when that openness is at odds with the team and the unit as a whole or when it becomes a hindrance rather than help.

Before I go any further allow me to explain a few things.

First, my intention here, is not to say its okay to say one-thing and do another – but rather to differentiate more between what can be publicly shared and what’s best kept private and no it has nothing to do with transparency either. But it has everything to do with the art and discipline of good team management and being a good team player.

From my observations, growing up in a politically charged household where some historic national and international political deals were born, I can safely say that from childhood I’ve watched politicians in action. The successful ones were, either, ironfisted dictators – and nobody condones or wants that, or agile diplomats with impeccable patience, timing and equaled discipline – and we all want some of that.

Secondly, loyalty, loyalty, loyalty – we can never have too much of it, towards our communities, our country, and our parties and of course on a personal level. Loyalty rarely comes free and sometimes it even comes at a price – but it’s almost always worth it!

It’s no secret that with politics comes power and that can sometimes makes it difficult for some to stay loyal, selfless or even grounded – and no I am not talking about manifesto promises before an election that needs changing after an election either. I am talking about being loyal to ones believes, to ones party and staying true even when circumstances change or when there is a wobble on the road. Staying right on track when things are tough is much harder but also worth it!

Peoples’ relationship with politics should not be that different to personal relationships, we love our kids our pets and some possessions unconditionally and we spend time working out the kinks on relationships or polish and wax the car, talking and spending time with loved ones, painting and decorating the house. Why don’t we do the same with what we believe in? Our political believes too; need some TLC from time to time, they too need recharging to stay fresh current and energized and they deserve it.
