Are we really that petty!?

At a time when a humane crisis is brewing, where seconds matter and those who make the decision need to be accurate about every move, and when every calculation needs to be precise to the nano millimetre. There are still those who worry about the name of a ship, the vehicle sent out to rescue stranded diplomats in a war zone. Forgetting that the rescue team was not invited to come over and collect British personal, but had to go under the cover of darkness to extract nationals who if left behind could create a diplomatic disaster with a nation on the verge of a civil war.

All of that is going on yet someone is genuinely concerned at offending an Islamic nation by sailing up to their shores on a warship named after a pork sausage!

As a Muslim, I am insulted, as a Briton I am horrified and as a human being I am just bewildered.

Insulted that we are treated as if we all live in a world of our own, separate form the rest of humanity with no regards or understanding to others’ practices and traditions just because a couple of extremists pronounced everything not to their liking to be “haraam”. Mind you, these are the same couple of people who the rest of us said time and time again they are not speaking for me. Nevertheless, to for their appeasement we are we’re all made to tiptoe around them and dance to their tune.

Horrified because at this rate if I’m captured (to make my point, let’s assume I’m worth capturing) I’ll be dead by the time everything from the rescuers to the equipment is made offensive neutral or even halal.

I’m puzzled, on whose religious authority did a ship’s or a person’s name became a disrespectful matter? Plus, let’s face it; we are not going there as a delegation to diplomatically negotiate their extraction, this is war pure and simple.

Mr Hague does not need to explain or give an apology because no offence or disrespect took place a warship by any name is a warship period.

Mr Baron needs to sack his researcher, that was a stupid, stupid thing to make an issue out off. And now, and because of it, his main message about “We should stop meddling in other people’s affairs and be very careful before we lecture countries on democracy…..” – is totally lost under the cloud of “a warship named after a pork sausage being send to an Islamic nation to rescue Brits”!
