Credit where credit is due!

David Cameron

Prime Minster Cameron was the first off the blocks with regards to what needed to be done concerning the Libyan crisis. For that he deserves credit, and support from all sides of the political divide and the respect of the world.

Along with the Foreign Secretary, William Hague, he worked hard and was relentless against formidable opposition internally and a lukewarm reluctant stance externally towards resolving the ongoing crisis. Securing a United Nations No – Fly Zone resolution backed by the Arab League post Iraq is a very big deal. It is also the type of action the world used to expect the US to initiate and lead pre the Obama age. And although David Cameron has lead the way in pushing for an all inclusive and far reaching resolution we must also remember that France had a big hand in cultivating and adding to those efforts, and for that they deserve our gratitude.

However, the hope still remains that a united world sending a robust message to Gaddafi and his sons “enough is enough” will be sufficient to avert any more blood shed in the streets and cities of Libya. As hard as it will be to go down the military action route – a dire prospect for all involved – standing by while innocent helpless people are massacred is a difficult and uncomfortable position to take. For that reason, the hope still remains that this UN resolution acts as a deterrent.
