What’s that boloney stuff I hear about journalist need to be apolitical?

Listening to some views in the past few days, you can’t help but wonder if some people aren’t being a little too ridiculous! I somehow, get the feeling they want every aspect of our media, newspapers and reporters to be neutral and apolitical. With the exception of the BBC – a publicly funded body – and the main emergency services – I see nothing healthy or natural about people being apolitical. Having and openly expressing political views are the building blocks of a healthy and dynamic society – and to want that curbed or God forbid even culled is simply bonkers. Expecting newspapers and journalists to be neutral is limiting, unnatural and virtually impossible!

Beside it being pure madness – where is the fun in that!?

Just imagine a day without the views of Kevin Maguire, Andrew Pierce, Nick Ferrari, Kay Burley, Mehdi Hassan, Peter Oborne, Tim Montgomerie, Yasmin Alibhai- Brown, or Jonathan Isaby….. Some of these guys have views totally opposite to mine – that might in occasions make my blood boil – nevertheless I always like and very much enjoy listening and reading what they have to say.

It’s normal and healthy to listen and respect other’s opinions – disagree all you want with them but to shut your ears to opposite and different ideas just because they are uncomfortable to hear – is neither normal nor healthy. On the contrary we should always welcome and embrace diversity in every possible aspect of our lives specially politics, because it’s enlightening and very empowering.
