Happy Birthday Mr President

Today President Ronald Reagan would have been 99 years old. Although he is no longer with us in body but his spirit, his legacy and his influence will for ever live with us.

He is one of the reasons I became interested in politics and like me millions the world over have been moved and touched by his words, his courage, perseverance and resilience.

His quotes were legendary some will always stay with me like,
“Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same”

About government he said; “Government exists to protect us from each other. Where government has gone beyond its limits is in deciding to protect us from ourselves.” And he believes “Government is like a baby. An alimentary canal with a big appetite at one end and no sense of responsibility at the other”

Reagan’s sense of humour has yet to be matched let alone rivalled; “I have left orders to be awakened at any time in case of national emergency, even if I’m in a cabinet meeting” he once said.

But my absolute favourite Reagan quote of all times is “I know in my heart that man is good. That what is right will always eventually triumph. And there’s purpose and worth to each and every life.”
