Winners & Losers ~ June 5, 2010

President Obama has increasingly been bullying BP [as if they are not doing everything to sort the problem plus they have the most to lose long term] with his pretend dismay (yes pretend). Although on a natural and financial scale the spill is a catastrophe to the people of Louisiana – and on a political scale, it has already been dubbed Obama’s Katrina. He must secretly be rubbing his hands in glee. Well, he has always been against off shore drilling and now he can sight this incident (which he hinted at) as a perfect excuse, add to that – he does not like Britain and this incident gives him a reason (if only in his head) to justify his dislike. He is a loser for using others’ grief for personal gain!

The winner is Diane Abbott – in Question Times on Thursday (which I only watched this morning) has very sensibly explained the dilemma Israel natural supporters and allies (me included) must feel now. The manner by which Israel has handled the flotilla incident and the current government’s approach to the conflict is making many sympathisers question their stance.
