‘Good Luck’ finding disunity!

Although most Tories are unhappy and frustrated at not winning the election outright, the media will have a tough time finding disgruntled delegates in Birmingham this week.

As a card carrying Conservatives since 2000, I can safely say that I know a thing or two about the party grassroots and Tory activists. They are honorable selfless devotees to the Conservative cause, they come in all ages, shapes and sizes and from all walks of life, they don’t shy away from pounding the streets in any weather and at all times of the day or night, they are the best envelop stuffers, fundraisers, and can devour huge amounts of homemade sandwiches, sausages and discount wine. The fastest leaflet droppers, very charming on the doorstep, nicest ushers on polling stations and always wear their rosettes with pride even when everybody saw them as the “Nasty Party”!

And all they want in return is a Tory Prime Minster in Number 10!

This conference they will all converge on Birmingham, knowing that on Wednesday the Prime Minster, they help get elected will close proceedings, for some it’s a dream they waited 14 years to see come true. That kind of loyalty, dedication and conviction can not be easily disunited, and the joy of returning a conservative PM is a delight that can not be easily masked.

As for the issue of the Coalition and LibDem partnership – Conservatives are patriots by nature, and most see this time as a national emergency and a time where the county’s best interest must come before self interest. The deficit needs to be reduced, the welfare state must be shrunk and the nation’s foundation and infrastructure need to be strengthened and fortified – since going it alone was the selfish weaker option a partnership is a welcome solution.

Note to journos, enjoy your-selves and forget looking for divisions this week – the Tories are giddy with happiness!
