Not long to go now!

Tim Montgomerie’s post yesterday, that 4 to 1 Tories, now, side with the Republicans, is a relief. As a Tory I always felt siding with the Democrats any Democrat was a tad embarrassing and an ideological betrayal for any red blooded conservative who correctly understood what the GOP is all about. And all that nonsense about how US Democrats are closer in ideology to moderate British Conservatives is utter hogwash and a total copout – an excuse used by those who allowed themselves to be mesmerized and bedazzled by the Obama-mania that swept the world prior to the 2008 election.

Here I said and I feel much better for openly sharing it!

However, siding does not mean those conservatives, who fell in love with all things Obama, are bad conservatives, it just means they are human, but it also says they don’t quite know our cousins, the Americans, as well as they think they do!

That brings me nicely to the Tea Party Movement (TPM) and its not so grand reputation on either side of the pond.

In the states, they are vilified by the left, purely for political and ideological reasons. In the UK, there is some of that plus dare I say a lack of understanding of what the core movement is all about. If people allow themselves to look closely, ignoring some of the rhetoric surrounding the TPM, they will see that they are not too out of sink with mainline conservatism – which is basically small government, law taxes, and government letting people get on with it because people know what’s best for them better than any bureaucrat – as for the nut jobs show me an organization that is devoid of nutters!

America is inherently conservative and if we all understood that and forgot about New York and California and what Californians and New Yorkers think or say, we’ll see why the Tea Party has a following, and understand why people like Sarah Palin and Glen Beck are adored by millions. Judging by last night’s results – Christian O’Donnell losing, and Marc Rubio winning (Rubio is most definitely one to watch), and although both were selected and supported by the movement – it shows clearly that America knows what she wants.

Furthermore, and regardless of how we feel about the movement, last night both made history and as a result the Republicans are now in a win, win situation. They have the power and the mandate to affect change and the foundation to built it on – all is left now to start grooming their presidential nominees – and by my count I see three and maybe even four good prospects!

Well Done, well deserved!

You do realise just how incoherent this bit reads dont you? “Christian O’Donnell losing, and Marc Rubio, most definitely one to watch, winning, even though both were selected and supported by the movement –shows clearly America knows what she wants”.

It also shows the same elite arrongence you accuse (quite rightly) the Democrats of, when you say ‘excuse used by those who allowed themselves to be mesmerized and bedazzled by the Obama-mania that swept the world prior to the 2008 election”. It also implys that back in 2008, the voters were too stupid to realise the political choice before them.

Btw, if George Bush and his band of war criminals were so great, why is it that Mcain and Palin were so soundly rejected? The phrase “small govt” has to be one of the most hackneyed, kneejerk usage of language from Conservatives, as its said as a mantra with little or no true understanding..

I would add that mid-terms all govts regardless of political hue get a kicking from the voters. It happened to Reagen, Thatcher, Clinton, both Bushes, yet they still went onto win their general elections.

The Tea Party is not a registered party (unless they were lying about this as well)..they are a movement that claims to have made an alliance with the GOP, so this means that either the GOP knows it cant win on its own record or that the latter has been hijacked.

If as you claim the Tea Party is mainstream movement, then I am sure they and the pin up girl for guns n ammo (Sarah Palin) will have no problems with refuting the slurs that Obama is a secrete Muslim, that he’s not a true American because he was not born there, etc.

I am one of those UK Conservatives who would vote Democrat. The reason is because I have objected to, for some time, a Republican Party that has been taken over by the religious right.

I could not support a party that wants to limit a woman’s choice over her own body; I could not support a party that is happy to dilute gun control; I could not support a party that is happy to let schools only teach creationism.

According to your sweeping generalism, this is proof that I’ve fallen “in love with all things Obama”. Tosh. What you’ve implied is that if UK Tories support the Democrats then we must be stupid because, other than Obama, there couldn’t possibly be any other reason for supporting them.

You say that we have “a lack of understanding of what the core movement [of the Tea Party] is all about”. Another sweeping generalisism. I know exactly what it’s about – just as I know that Communism is a good idea in principle, just not in reality. What you can’t control are the people who hijack these ideas for their own agenda.

Yes, any political party has its extremists but the Tea Party has just a few too many for comfort. If you want to support them, then get out there with a banner – but don’t go too far south of the Mason-Dixie Line.

May I suggest you spend the weekend refreshing your understanding of English grammar, spelling and syntax before you jump back into political commentary?

Floyd – thank you for pointing out the confusion.

Jules – I understand where you’re coming from. A friend of mine who is considered a moderate conservative in the US, in the UK will be classed a UKiper. My intention was not to insult (those of us who are Dem supporters) but to point out the vast difference – guess I was looking for empathy for the TPM on the UK side.

DRE- what can I say! English is my third language and I am bad at it – but thank you for your advice and BTW do you have any suggestion or tips, maybe books for me to read or courses to take. Any help will be hugely appreciated
