So what did we learn?

Reading James Forsyth’s review of the week about the Joanne Cash Westminster North Association saga made me cringe not because of it outlandishness or oddness but because it reeked of incompetence, naivety and conceit.
Politics is all about power and the struggles to attain and keep that power it is the first lesson most people learn. It is also the basic fundamental of politics – that is why all parties involved in that fiasco are guilty. Regardless of the importance of the seat or the popularity or unpopularity of the candidate this was an internal matter that should have been dealt with privately and swiftly, and never allowed to go this far. Inner power struggles are part and parcel of political life especially when those concerned (as in this case) are strong minded; but nevertheless, it is inexcusable to allow such a simple and obvious tussle to get so out of control.
Going forward, we must all remember what is important and put it first, and not to allow our personal objectives destroy the work of the majority. Ideally no person should ever become untouchable at the expense of others. But live isn’t always ideal. There are many times when rising above the negative and the destructive is difficult and instantly unrewarding, but it is far more gratifying in the long run.
Despite the unnecessary publicity there are many great lessons to be learned from this mess, I hope we can all learn them and move on and best of luck to all Westminster North Conservatives.
