How far is too far!

Watched Zac Goldsmith’s interview [if you want to call it that] with Jon Snow on Channel Four and I have to say Mr Goldsmith has risen in my esteem. Clearly Snow had a strong and premeditated bias but Goldsmith still triumphed by standing his ground and getting his point across.

However, it is sad that our media today is so biased that some people are presumed guilty just because they have the wrong/right surname!

It was a joy to watch someone really work Snow over, something that has been a long time coming. He is an aging old lefty who cant find a home anymore and always strikes me as bitter about his life and the success of others. Goldsmith was too cool.

Irene, must have it was beautiful to watch!

Ean, Snow needed it and you are right he had it coming – it was long over due – I tell you I have a whole new found respect for Zac

No matter what the point, I have an aversion to the style in which Zac chose to make it.

Whether or not he is being fairly singled out as being a bigger culprit, as a voter I’m extremely interested in this issue. If our electoral system is being abused, or is simply too weak and wobbly to create a level playing field for candidates when it comes to electoral promotion, then I applaud Channel 4 for bringing this to our attention.

If he has nothing to fear – because as he says himself, abuse of this kind is widespread – then if he believes in democracy he should be happy for this to be discussed.

A democracy should be able to handle criticism and question.

As someone who used to work in the media – though I no longer do – I know the extent to which this story will have been stood up by lawyers before it went to air. I very much doubt that Zac Goldsmith will emerge from this smelling of roses. The argument that everybody else is doing it is not a very good one, though I did enjoy Zac’s suggestion that if what he’s done is wrong then the whole election needs to be re-run. I wonder what the outcome would be?
