The difference is very clear.....

…..unless you choose not to see it! The end of the Democracy Village is by no means the end of democracy, the two are very separate, and it is ludicrous to even think otherwise – the difference is obvious except for those who intend to capitalize on this issue and make it what it is not. Having a permanent shantytown in Parliament Square was never going to last and it is astonishing that it lasted as long as it did.

By removing and ending this unsightly fixture the square will now return to its rightful use – a public space used and enjoyed by everyone equally!

The usual pathetic bourgeois criticism based on purely aesthetic considerations, i.e. free speech is only acceptable if it looks nice and middle class, with laminated corporate placards and suits and ties.

Of course, we must also get the permission of the people we are protesting against in order to protest against them. Presumably that is your idea of free speech.

I have seen absolutely no evidence to support the idea that Democracy Village ever prevented any individual or group not connected with Democracy Village from protesting in or visiting the square. In fact, lots of foreign visitors were very curious and interested in the so-called “shanty town”, probably more interested than they were in the pig trough across the road. Many were jealous that they couldn’t have such a protest in their own country, because of their own fascistic governments.

This is a dark day for our so-called democracy, and for those who in the past fought valiantly for our freedoms, many of them making the ultimate sacrifice. Anyway, the peace camp will just move to College Green now, or City Hall, or St James’s Park, so the fascist authorities will be back to square one. Shame on you.
