International Development is Smart Thinking!

Those who think International Development being ring fenced was wrong are not seeing the full picture. Most just see it as a charity to far away people, given to them at a time when our own country needs all the help it can get.
They will be right in thinking this way EXCEPT by building schools, factories and health centres – via buying medicine, books, providing farming equipments and digging wells in these countries, the UK [putting aside the humane aspect] is stabilizing these communities. Helping these countries stand on their own two feet the UK is also closing many ugly and unwanted doors.
Through steadying these nations we are safeguarding them from being exploited and/or radicalized and at the same time curbing economic migrations from them to us. If we are being honest, International Development is more of an investment than a charity. Yes, we are caring but at the same time we are also protecting our nation, guarding its safety and security – in other words we are looking after our own interest whilst doing a charitable deed.
Judging by what is happening in the world stage today – I would say our return far outweighs what we are putting in!
