Victim Support, give me Strength!

A couple of weeks ago a family member was mugged in broad day light – and the incident became a police matter.

The police did their thing filling millions of forms and taking turns asking the same question a million different ways – but the back breaker came after a phone call a couple of days later from Victim Support.

After the niceties, the caller asked the victim “how can I help you?” My relative still shaken described their anxiety and distress, confessing they are confused and can not sleep because they have nightmares about the attack – and don’t know what to do?

Now, keep in mind not everybody who goes through a similar ordeal has family support, and for many, Victim Support is all they have to really on for help to manage such a situation.

However, the supporter offered a 0845 telephone number for the victim to call for “when the victim knows” the kind of support they need – but every time the victim called a different person answered and they had to start all over retelling and reliving the whole experience – which in itself became a nightmare.

How is that be helpful beats me!
