On the day when sadly the 250th British young life was lost (Rifleman Peter Aldridge, 19, of A Company 4 Rifles) in Afghanistan, Sarah’s Law – the pilot scheme allowing parents to check if someone has a history of child sex offences – is expected to be rolled out nationally. The third Minister in as many weeks let slip that the General Election is on May 6th and the country terror alert is upgrades from substantial to severe – meaning an attack is “Highly Likely”. And we learn that there is no limit to how far a woman scorned can go for revenge, £150,000 in the case of YaVauhhnie Wilkins – Charles E Phillips’ (economic advisor to the White House) dumped mistress. Who outs their eight and a half years affair with glitzy three story high billboard posters in New York’s Time Square, Atlanta and San Francisco featuring a link to a website where their affair is documented with photos!
Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula steals the show by confirming that it was behind the failed Christmas Day Bomb attempt – with a statement to Al-Jazeera News stating the attempt had been carried out to avenge US operations in Yemen. Although there is no confirmed intelligence to suggest that an attack is imminent, the chatter in the intelligence community is very alarming. The terrorists are now recruiting and grooming women form different backgrounds as suicide bombers and their next target is said to be London. Just when most have reluctantly succumbed to racial profiling as a solution – after the Christmas Day Bomb attempt – it looks we really don’t have ‘a profile’ to go by!
If anything at all, the latest revelations tell us we must always stay one step ahead–and we always need to be on guard leaving nothing for chance – as civilians we can help by being more vigilant and aware of our surroundings. It also means that we need to allow the security people all the freedom they need while giving them every support so they can continue to effectively protect us.
