Can the Liberals be Government & Opposition as well!

Posted 17 Jun 2010 by Walaa Idris

It came to my attention yesterday that the LibDem parliament party was meeting to discuss setting up a Shadow team – tasked with shadowing Tory briefs [their government]. Even though, I understand it is need for independency and for the party to retain its identity, but I could not envision how it might work without conflict. How will the two leaders feel about it? So I figured tomorrow [after they meet] it will all make sense.

Tomorrow is here and I still can’t figure out what the liberals are up to but I am comforted in knowing that I am not alone in not understanding what’s going on !

Its very simple Simon Hughes is a petty little politician who broke onto the scene with a lot of promise none of which has been forfilled and who would have been at home in the Labour Party.

He is not mentally equipped for Government, does not have the maturity to take responsability, look back at his career and you can see the trend.

I can see the liberals breaking into two parties in the not to distant future.

Before and during the election when all the talk was about Clegg being the King Maker and both him and the liberals were feeling pretty good at the prospect. I was sure that any Coalition they get into was going the be the end of them.
1) as a party they are small in size and not solid enough to withstand any major shake up.
2)unlike UKIP for instance their roots are scattered between left & right and makes them easy to divide.
3)[I always get it from my liberal friends on this one] but they come across as a little confused and that can’t be good.

Glad to see im not the only one worried about Hughes and his Lib’s latest offering. Disconcerting to say the least. If i was a Lib i’d be backing the coalition 100% with it, the liberal democrats are jut another fringe part without the structure or promise to ever get into number 10. When will they realise this is an opportunity they should be clasping in both hands.

They should be counting their blessings – but I also see why they might feel if it wasn’t for them the Tories will not have a stable government. It is [in reality] a two way street -having said that it is by far their best and only opportunity to govern this century!
