When right is wrong!

When I heard the Cordoba Initiative and the American Society for Muslim Advancement had planed to build an Islamic Center & Mosque just three blocks away from Ground Zero. I was torn; my mind said “if it was legal to use the site for any purpose and all applications and permits were approved, why not, build it”. The US, last time I checked, was still a free country!

But my heart was heavy; whatever logic might dictates, this center, so close to Ground Zero for some New Yorkers will always be a sad and painful reminder of the 9/11 atrocities.

Cross cultural sensitivities, in this case, should have been the order of the day, and should have been observed. Not by the law or policy makers, but by the American Society for Muslim Advancement. I know a landmark location like 45-47 Park Street, in the heart of New York City is very alluring, but forgoing it for maybe a less captivating location, further away from Ground Zero, would have been the considerate thing to do.

Where rights and entitlements are great and should be protected, concessions are prove of strength and depth of character!
