Is the glass half full or half empty!?

“There is a time to be quite and there is a time to talk” the first words the pro democracy leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, said to the crowed of supporters standing outside her home where she was imprisoned for the past 20 years. President Barack Obama described her as a Hero and said it was time for Burma to release all political prisoners!

However, opinions are still divided as to the conditions of her release, and whether she will be allowed to speak and travel freely plus of course the fate of the other 2000 plus political activists who are still jailed in Burma – what will become of them – will they too be freed and when!?

These people although they appreciate the significance of the occasion they still see the glass as half empty and feel the pro democracy leader’s release is not perfect and incomplete – that is why they ask what about the rest of it?

But equally there are those who see the glass as half full – and regard the freedom of Aung San Suu Kyi as a fantastic move on the right direction – they are little concerned with its perfection and more focused on its significance – because today as history goes, is a historical triumph for peaceful democracy. And as our own Prime Minster, David Cameron said, “It was long over due”!
