Hail Lord Strathclyde!

Lord Strathclyde

After weeks of filibustering, and deliberate delay tactics by opposition peers in the Lords, it finally looks like the Voting System and Constituencies Bill might reach the Statute Book before the looming deadline of February 16th.

Good news because it’s more cost effect holding the vote on May 5th with many other local elections, where there will be a better turn out added to that time-wise it allows the Boundary Commission time for redrawing the new constituencies in time for the next election in 2015.

Nobody likes change, especially as some constituencies boundaries were redrawn for the 2005 elections. But as long as the country needs to trim and tighten its strings in order to reduce the deficit, it is only fair that the cost of representing the public is trimmed as well!
