Our world has changed and we need to change with it!

Pre 9/11, I didn’t think twice when we in the West either pointed out or tried to rectify civil and cultural differences between us and other nations. Even used to see it as our duty to share what they learned from years of civilised experiences – used to see it as a compassionate way of helping fellow men and women in “culturally” developing nations speed up their progress process.

Post 9/11, it became clear to me that just as we in West want to export our diverse accepting “evolved” culture, many in the East also would like to impose theirs on us. The methods might be different, but the intent is still the same!

I enjoy dressing the way I dress, cherish my freedom to drive my car anywhere I want at any time, travel “without permission” unaccompanied by a male escort and just being seen and treated as an equal wherever I go is a liberty I will die for.

Saudi women don’t enjoy any of that and many other conservative Arab nations have variation of restrictions forced on their women. And although it’s our duty to support and aid the weak and the oppressed it is not our business to change cultures. Until Saudi women march the streets of the Kingdom and collectively demand the right to drive and until the Saudi government opens fire on them for asking for that basic entitlement non of us, in the West, have any right or business interfering in their believes and sovereignty – regardless of what we think of those believes. And, if we do then we are no different to Islamic extremist who think our women are too loose, need to cover up more and Sharia Laws should be implemented in the West.
