Libs president Tim Farron’s speech was a double edged sword!

Lib Dems

In the spirit of partnership and all things Coalition – I followed a great deal of the LibDem conference on TV. Yes, I cringingly watched Sarah Teather and those who confused delegates with their standup comedy – in my opinion, some talents are best kept hidden. But I very much liked and enjoyed listening to Danny Alexander, he is definitely one to watch. Chris (how dare you speak ill of Europe) Huhne, oh well, all that green and environment talk, at this particular time, makes him sounds like that French queen who when told her dirt-poor peasants are hungry and don’t have bread to eat – she said why don’t they just eat cake? Environment, environment, environment, Europe and environment then Europe, makes Chris a very ….

Then there is Dr. Cable, the man is a natural when it comes to pitch perfect dry humor delivered beautifully – he actually can do Vegas (Sin City) and succeed at it. And, despite the media rumors he wasn’t at all scary – but maybe that was the idea!

However, can’t say the same about the LibDem president, Tim Farron, now that is one very scary man – not in the ‘oh I better hide or skip town the liberal are coming kind of way’ but in the OMG how short-sighted and confused can he be!!!

Clearly his job was to appease those lefty liberals who think the coalition is a bad idea (we too have Tories who think the coalition is treason) but there is appealing to the unhappy and stroking their egos and then there is shooting yourself in the foot – Farron just blew his foot off. Not with the Tories, we neither matter nor care, but with his own lot. Besides dividing his own party, his ranting gave the other parties and the media loads of ammunition. Seconds after his ‘motivational speech’ LibDems lined up to refute his claims, which does not make him look too clever. If that, and it’s a big IF, was the intended outcome, then he succeeded and at the same time managed to pull the rug from under Labour (their conference is next week) and now they are left with little to say that haven’t already been said.

On the upside, Farron reminded all of us Tories to never drop our guard and to continue sleeping with one eye open until 2015.
