Happy Small Businesses Day!

As an entrepreneur I am a natural supporter of business, because they are the engine of the economy that generates our jobs, incomes and taxes. Small local businesses in particular, support and enhance communities. Like most people, I fully understand the importance of supporting them and our communities, but also, like many I am guilty of not doing so enough.

These days many of us forgo shopping in our small local shops (which by the way offers fresher and in many occasions, locally produced goods) for the big chains. We do it out of convince but also due to cost. We live in an age of limited funds, limited time and the need to multitask and utilize our resources effectively.

Knowledge is power; in this instance knowing that our communities and their success depend on us is a power we should not take lightly.

And as the saying goes, every journey begins with a step. So let’s all before today ends take one step towards the journey of supporting our community by shopping locally.
