Andy, Andy, Andy – Come On Man!

Posted 10 Oct 2010 by Walaa Idris

Andy Burnham, the only Labour Leadership contender who impressed me with his openness and genuine answers during the campaign, has today disappointed me.

The man who during his Labour leadership campaign advocated politicians should be frank when they speak and answer when they are asked – has this morning, on the Andrew Marr Show, played dodge the question like most politicians and gave very little answers to the obvious questions!

Especially as we had a General Election less than six month ago and he was fighting a leadership election up to two weeks ago – in other words he had no excuse not to know where he stands and/or have the answers – unless they are being cooked – then he should have waited and gave an interview after they simmered.

Although not having or giving answers is a luxury enjoyed by those in opposition – being bold and innovative is always refreshing – during the campaign I saw Burnham as both, but as it happens we can all, from time to time, make mistakes!

From what I can gather, apart from the Land tax issue, which is certainly new, his other main plank was his own version of dog whistle politics, especially on immigration. There is a diffrence between listening to constitutionts and pandering to their base instincts for votes.

Good to hear from you here Floyd. However politics will be politics and I understand that all too well.
