Shouldn't there be a By Election in Bristol East then!?

Posted 25 Oct 2010 by Walaa Idris

First of all let me make it absolutely clear that I am in no way gloating or rubbing salt in Kerry McCarthy’s wounds. But the time is opportune to question a few points regarding the matter of her tweeting the results of the postal votes before polling day. Especially as, at the time she was the official Twitter Tsar of the Labour Party!

Being cautioned by the police is a big deal, but my question is has she been cautioned as Kerry McCarthy the Labour PPC who leaked the postal results before polling day – or as Kerry McCarty the Labour Party official tweeter!?

One might qualify her for a slap on the wrest; the other might not, however, both are a breach of election rules, and therefore should forfeit that election. Her guilt is solid ground for a By Election being called on the bases that results were made known before the end of polling.

So is Bristol East going to have a By Election?

Not sure that there should Walaa but those even more informed than me about electoral law may differ.
ONE thing that should though be changed is the universal access to postal votes since it seems to have spawned massive vote fraud.
Postal votes were originally intended to be available only to those who really were unable to attend in person. Those persons had to be registered via the electoral roll. Now it seems possible for 100 people to be registered in a non-existent address, or at an address shared by just 2 occupants. I even read that villagers in the Punjab and Kashmir, none of whom have ever been near the UK, seem able to vote.
This isn’t a racist comment – just a practical one. It must be stopped and Kelly then would have no reason to twitter so the issue wouldn’t arise.
