A three course post!

Today, three issues are dancing around in my head – so get ready for a trio commentary.

First, the Libyan government accusing coalition planes of bombing an oilfield and consequently killing three security guards is worrying on two accounts. For starters, how do we (the coalition) know who or what is on the ground when many reports coming out of Libya say Gaddafi’s troops deliberately use citizens as human shields and cover for strategic locations. Plus, who can believe what Gaddafi and his people say anymore!?

On top of that, the big question still remains unanswered – do we even know who the rebels are? The Americans seems to have some idea, after a not so secret visit to Libya from the CIA Obama has all but totally pulled out from the coalition – maybe he knows something he’d like to share.

Secondly, what’s wrong with us and what does it say about us when every decision maker finds it best to tip-toes around a yob like Wayne Rooney – because he is a talented footballer – and when the only gutsy and appropriate immediate decision to his thuggish behaviour is taken by his sponsors Coca-Cola. I have no trouble with his bad language or his arrogance and sense of entitlement, but take issue with his deliberate needless act of aggression by aiming at the camera to deliver abuse and insult. That behaviour deserves immediate action and much more than a two game ban.

And finally for dessert – is my amazement with our sense of right and wrong and how as a nation we became so cynical with regard to our politicians. No matter what they do or say we are unable to give them the benefit of the doubt. We ask and expect them to listen and make their decisions after consulting with us. But when they do, as this government is currently doing first with the forests and now the NHS reforms we don’t like it. Party politics should not always be the core of every judgment we make, at times a little common sense goes a long way.
