Osama Bin Laden

Today is a historic day for US forces and the free world. The most barbaric man on the face of the earth the assassin of thousands of innocent lives and the architect of 9/11 and 7/7 – almost ten years after the Twin Towers’ atrocities has finally been taken out. Osama Bin Laden, a name that emanated terror for years has today been caught, killed and buried at sea.

While it is not my nature to be jubilant at the death of any living being, this evildoer is the exception. No doubt his death is a blow to al- Qaeda, their franchises, Islamist jihads and those who idolised him the world over. However, the fight is not yet over. Al-Qaeda is not a unit with a base and headquarters in any one geographical location and although there is great satisfaction in his removal this is not the end and there can be no room for complacency.

Many, and rightly so, are asking “The head has been cut but is the snake dead?” The simple answer is No!

Nevertheless Bin Laden’s death will demoralise his followers and by the same token turns a page on the dark and painful chapter on the War on Terror and it allows those who lost loved ones at his hands or on the battlefields closure and a sense of justice.

As a franchise al – Qaeda has cells with operational capabilities scattered all over the globe, some of which are in and around major cities in Europe the US and the UK. That makes a retaliatory attack by them or their sympathiser an eminent possibility and for that we must stay vigilant and not drop our guard.

Meanwhile I still remain hopeful and do pray for peace and harmony between our two worlds!
