Since when did we presume guilt in this country - the case of Andrew Bridgen MP!?

I was very happy yesterday to hear that the father of two, Tory MP Andrew Bridgen was cleared over claims he sexually assaulted a 29 year- old woman and that all charges and the case against him is dropped after the complainant admitted no offence had taken place.

However, at the same time I was deeply dismayed that we are fast developing a culture of shoot first then ask questions later. And turning into a society venomously hungry for other peoples’ blood – and enthusiastically ready ‘before properly probing’ to assume people are guilty when our laws stipulates every person is innocent until proven otherwise!

Mr. Bridgen’s name and details should never have been released to the public before there was a solid case against him. Furthermore, why is it okay for his personal life to be picked apart while the lady in question still enjoys anonymity – what does that type of discrimination say about us and our sense of justice and fair play?

Nevertheless, I am encouraged to know that the North West Leicestershire MP who had vigorously denied the allegation was considering legal action, as he should. Hope his case puts an end to this unfair senseless practice that has no place in our judiciary or this country.
