The bounce that keeps on bouncing!

The first bounce was a very nice surprise especially for a party in government, to get such a leap in the polls from a sensitive issue like Europe was unexpected. Particularly as all three party leaders only a few weeks before rubbished any talk about a referendum or anything that remotely resembles a shakeup of the status quo deeming it all untimely, regressive rightwing Europhobic nonsense. For the polls to stay up for three week and maybe more is really saying something!

As a Eurosceptic, I am of course delighted with the effect of Cameron’s veto. As a Tory and a proud one who happened to be very much on the right of the party it fills me with joy to see most of our nation meant it when they told us on the doorsteps “enough is enough we want more powers back from Europe”.

I am also very encouraged that my leader was brave and honest when he went against the grain and stood his ground. But most of all I’m elated that during this particular crisis, the UK has a Prime Minster who does not care about being popular in Europe or the world stage but about doing what’s right for Britain.

Doing what’s right sometimes comes at a cost, this time the cost was Merkozy and their chumminess but losing that friendship gained Cameron the backing of his nation and the respect of the world. The British public is not anti-Europe nor are they pro-isolation but they are pro fairness. Europe has been an unfair bully to us and no one likes a bully, that’s why people got tired and are now showing it.

I suspect the polls continue to stay in favor of the Conservatives not only because of the Europe veto, but because the alternative is not working, it’s actually not even there, and the public can see that despite all the economic hardships this government has a vision and a plan, but most of all it is doing all it can to fix the damages they inherited.
