An Open letter to Iain Dale

Posted 17 Jun 2010 by Walaa Idris

Dear Iain,

Your blogpost this morning has left me with mixed feelings about your decision to come off the approved list of parliamentary candidates. Even though we have on many occasions talked about it and while, on most of those times I leaned towards you not becoming an MP, because I belief that what you are doing [blogging, writing, editing, publishing, media appearances and now a fantastic Radio presence] are as good if not at times better for the Conservative cause and becoming an MP will stifle that. I still can not help but feel a tinge of sadness hearing this news.

But there is also the Upper House where you can still do both well, and Lord Dale of Tunbridge Wells has a nice ring to it ;-))

However, I think you have made a wise and brave decision – you were born to do media and you are a natural at it. I love your Radio stand-ins and if LBC 97.3 gives you a permanent slot they will have me as a permanent listener [no more station hopping], and I am sure there are millions out there who will do the same!

Of course, I will be with you tonight at LBC from 10pm – 1am, and might even call the show this time!

Lots of love
Walaa X

Agreed. If Iain really feels he is too old for the HoC [pity!] he would seem a positive toddler compared with some in the current HoL!

And isn’t it time we started to celebrate maturity instead of apologising for it?

Thank you Dorothy for taking the time and commenting.

I don’t feel Iain will be old at 52 or 62, if our parliament is to be representative of the people it represents then people from all walks of life, ages and background should be encouraged to stand.

I totally agree with you [in celebrating maturity], but sadly we are becoming more and more superficial and it is reflecting on our politics!

I concur we cannot lose one of the brighter political minds out there. Iain is possible too bright at times, the selection in Bracknell for example where he simple out thought his position. Would be good to see Lord Iain even if he does spell his name the wrong way.

Ean, I don’t think we will ever lose Iain, his contributions will continue just not in a legislative manner.

I might be a little biased here, but I feel by having the freedom to write and broadcast without answering to 60 – 80 thousand constituents [and post expenses things are much different than before] we all will have the best of Iain Dale!

Ummmmmmm, no. Dale is one of the biggest waste of space in existence. He failed, massively, the win a proper seat so why should he be thrown one.

The fact of the matter is is that Dale is a lefty, liberal idiot who buys into the PC authoritarian idiocy of New Labour.
