Walaa's Weekly Wrap-Up ~ August 24, 2013

Finding it very difficult to understand or even sympathise with the fracking protesters in Balcombe, West Sussex. Why? Because, they do not have a cause to protest about.

So far, all Cuadrilla is doing is exploring possibilities of fracking in the area. Does their protesting mean environmentalists are now against even exploring activities?

That to me sounds very authoritarian and therefore wrong.

Plus what is Caroline Lucas doing protesting and getting arrested, when she is an elected member of parliament with a voice and a very wide platform. Or did she forget she is an MP?

Have to admit, I don’t hold a positive view of people who use disobedience, violence or force to make their point, especially in a free, democratic and open society like ours. And I most definitely don’t have any time for those who do it at the cost and convenience of local communities.

UKIP was again all over the news this week, but this time it was not about poll surges or defecting councillors….. It was about Will Gilpin, the former RAF pilot who was brought in to make the party more professional.

His parting words, after eight month of being the party’s chief executive, were: “UKIP will remain a bunch of enthusiastic amateurs having a good time, rather than the professional fighting team they could be”

My surprise is not at Gilpin finding UKIP is an individualistic organisation or a one man show, but at how long it took him to see it, a whole eight months, when the rest of us know it (UKIP) as Farage’s party.

The Conservatives yesterday launched this brilliant website, Cost of Labour . I know many will say it’s tacky, others will say it is negative but I love, love, love it.

And let me tell you why. Although Labour, albeit reluctantly, is admitting some of their past mistakes, Conservatives should not let their guard down and relentlessly remind them and the public that a Labour government will cost this country very dear.

Just imagine if the tables were turned, will Labour have an inkling of empathy, I don’t think so.

We politicos who regularly listen, read and watch every news item and political programme might get tired of hearing it, but your average Joes can go for weeks without any political news and they need the reminding.
