Walaa's Weekly Wrap-Up ~ July 27, 2013

What a week, very mixed bag.

The stork visited the Cambridges and gifted them Prince George Alexander Louis, congratulations. A rail disaster claimed 78 lives in Spain, may they rest in peace. Thoughts and prayers are with them and their loved ones. Egypt is still in turmoil, violent protests claimed another five lives. This situation is extremely alarming and it might even become more serious than Syria. The time for diplomatic mediation is now.

When Mathew Hancock MP said he wants to see firms train and hire local people first. Everybody jumped on him. Some called him a protectionist and others shrugged in revulsion before adding ‘Expected, he’s a Tory’.

And of course UKIP – used their one size fits all attack – “It’s illegal under EU laws….”

Don’t understand neither of the reactions because we are daily encouraged to eat local produce and support local manufactures, products and services. Recycle our bags, reduce our travel distance and carbon foot print and minimise waste. We are constantly encouraged to boost our local communities even help police our own neighbourhoods.

We are daily encouraged to back and use what’s around us and what grows and produced locally and within neighbouring communities, yet when an MP says ‘It’s firms’ duty to employ Britons’ he is vilified!

That does not make any sense at all!

I say well done Mr Hancock, and I believe firms should listen to him, even if it means a little more work for them, training and retaining local workers.

We are proud to buy British and should be equally proud to employ British. It’s not protectionism; it’s just simple common sense.

Update 10:10 – At least 70 people killed Egypt, the time for talks and democratic guidance is now, before it becomes a civil war.
